What is Permeability? Give its Formulae?

Permeability is the percentage ratio of the space available for the entry of water into a compartment, to the total volume of the compartment.
For an empty compartment, P = 100% and for a compartment so full that water cannot enter at all, if bilging occurred, p = 0%.
For any compartment, p may be calculated by the formula:
p% = (BS ÷ SF) 100
SF = the stowage factor in m3/t
BS = the broken stowage per tonne of cargo.
